Who we are
Lantern is a travel safety app operated by Stefaniga D. Cosmin-Lucian PFA, Dacilor 11, Caransebes, Caras-Severin, 325400, Romania (VAT RO34668358). We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact: help@lantern.travel.
What we collect
Account details: your name, email address and phone number.
Trips and check-ins: trip destination and dates, check-in times, notes you add, and your location when you check in or when an alert is raised.
Emergency contacts: the name, phone number and email address of each person you add as a contact.
Device data: push notification tokens, and crash and error reports.
Message records: which messages, emails and calls we sent, when, and whether they were delivered.
How we use it
We use this information only to run Lantern: to share your check-ins with your contacts, to alert your contacts by push notification, SMS, email and automated voice call when you miss a check-in, and to keep the service working and secure.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Emergency contacts
If someone adds you as an emergency contact, we use your name, phone number and email address to tell you that you were added and to alert you if that traveler misses a check-in. You must have a Lantern account and confirm in the app before you receive alerts.
SMS messages
Lantern sends SMS only for the safety alerts described above. Message frequency varies with the traveler's check-ins. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help where available, or email help@lantern.travel.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party, except the service providers that deliver the messages for us.
Service providers
We use these providers to run Lantern, and they process data only on our behalf: Supabase (database, accounts and servers), Bird (SMS and voice calls), Resend (email), Expo (push notifications), Sentry (error reports), RevenueCat (subscriptions and in-app purchases), and PostHog (product analytics, to understand how the app is used). Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
This website uses Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that does not use cookies or collect personal data.
Legal basis
We process your data to provide the service you signed up for (performance of a contract), and for emergency contacts, on the basis of their consent and our legitimate interest in keeping travelers safe.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account in the app, we delete your account data. Message delivery records may be kept for a limited time where needed for security or legal reasons.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict its processing, and withdraw consent at any time. You can delete your account in the app's settings, or email help@lantern.travel. You can also complain to the Romanian data protection authority (ANSPDCP) or the authority in your country.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
